JN Sounds’ top pick of wedding reception floor fillers you don’t often hear

We are often getting asked by couples to play songs that “aren’t too cheesy” at their wedding. Or for “music that’s a bit different that gets everyone up dancing”.

While it’s our job to read the crowd and get as many people as possible dancing, we always suggest to couples they send us a bit of a playlist. This ensures we know what kind of music you like, and we can then build and add to that with ideas of our own, both before hand and on the night.

It can be quite difficult to think of big songs from back in the day that aren’t ones you hear at every wedding you go to! Having a YouTube or Spotify evening, as boring as it sounds, is often a good idea. Going though playlists and albums really does spark your musical memory and takes you back to your early partying days.

And so to help start you off we have put together a collection of a few of our favourites. Tunes that you probably don’t hear too often that can also be awesome wedding dance floor fillers.

This was a very tricky list to make, and could very easily have been a lot longer! So we have just stuck to a few genres and eras that we find are popular choices.

Enjoy!

DANCE

Want love – Hysteric Ego
We’re going straight in with an absolute house classic! Sits perfectly alongside other dance anthems from the same era.

Messin’ around – Once Waz Nice (Wideboys remix)
There are so many old UK garage songs we could have chosen from that you don’t often hear, this being a big one that takes you straight back to Ayia Napa!

You see the trouble with me – Black Legend
Another dance classic we don’t see on playlists very often. It’s that added crowd noise that really helps hype up the dance floor!

EIGHTIES

Wanna be startin’ somethin’ – Michael Jackson
Of course the likes of ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Don’t stop til you get enough’ are big floor fillers, but for something a bit different this also does the job.

Sussudio – Phil Collins
Such a cool 80s song that demands some dance floor action, even if it does remind you of the scene from American Psycho.

Just can’t get enough – Depeche Mode
Another 80s classic you won’t often hear at a wedding. People of a certain age group can’t resist a boogie to this one!

URBAN

Beenie Man – Dude
15 years old but still sounding fresh today, such an infectious track from Beenie Man.

Tambourine – Eve
Another classic from around the same time that doesn’t get played enough. Works great in RnB/Kisstory style sets.

The real slim shady – Eminem
Perhaps not the most out there track, but not something you’d hear at every wedding either. If you do though it will usually go off!

ROCK/INDIE

Are you gonna be my girl – Jet
Still sounding amazing, this is hands in the air drunken sing-a-long territory!

Sum 41 – Fatlip
Yes. We went there with some American teen rock. From the soundtrack to American Pie!

Before I fall to pieces – Razorlight
Another indie classic you just have to sing along to.

POP

Dynamite – Taio Cruz
A huge pop anthem from the 00s that you don’t hear as much now. A must play ‘hands in the air’ party tune.

Pencil full of lead – Paulo Nutini
Paulo Nutini produced an absolute classic with this one nearly 10 years ago. A song that gets all ages hitting the dance floor!

Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom – Vengaboys
Arguably a terrible slice of cheese from the 90s, but it still does the job today!
